Derek Trucks

Derek Trucks has played the same guitar — a 1961 Gibson SG — since his early twenties, running it into a Fender Deluxe amplifier with almost no effects. His open E tuning slide approach builds directly on the tradition of Duane Allman and Robert Johnson, but pushed through a jazz and Indian classical sensibility that makes his playing genuinely unclassifiable. As co-leader of the Tedeschi Trucks Band and former member of the Allman Brothers Band, Trucks demonstrates that gear minimalism — one guitar, one amp, one tuning — can produce an inexhaustible range of expression.
