Tanya Tucker

outlaw-adjacenttexas-countrycomeback
Tanya Tucker (born 1958) became a country music star at 13 with Delta Dawn (1972), a song about a faded Southern belle that showcased a voice far too powerful and world-weary for a teenager. She followed it with a string of hits — What's Your Mama's Name, Blood Red and Goin' Down, Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone), Lizzie and the Rainman, and Texas (When I Die). Her 1970s recordings were produced by Billy Sherrill and had a gritty, confrontational edge unusual for country music at the time. Her career had peaks and valleys across five decades, but While I'm Livin' (2019), produced by Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings, won two Grammy Awards and introduced her to a new generation. She has charted over 50 Top 40 country singles.
