The Doors

classic-rockpsychedelic-rockblues-rockorgan-driven
The Doors formed in Los Angeles in 1965 and built a sound that had no real precedent: blues, jazz, and psychedelia filtered through Jim Morrison's theatrical, literary persona and Ray Manzarek's organ-driven arrangements, which covered bass and keys simultaneously. Their self-titled debut and Strange Days remain foundational documents of late 1960s rock. Morrison died in Paris in 1971 at 27.
