ARP Odyssey

The ARP Odyssey is a duophonic analog synthesizer introduced in 1972 by ARP Instruments, designed as a direct competitor to the Minimoog. Unlike the Minimoog's single oscillator architecture, the Odyssey featured two oscillators and a high-pass filter in addition to a low-pass filter, giving it a brighter, more aggressive tonal range. Gary Numan used the ARP Odyssey as a primary instrument throughout his classic period, favoring it over the Minimoog for its dual-oscillator richness. The riff that drives "Cars" was played on an ARP Odyssey. The instrument has been used by a wide range of artists across electronic music, jazz fusion, and rock.
