Oberheim OB-Xa
The Oberheim OB-Xa is a polyphonic analog synthesizer introduced in 1980, known for its thick, warm pads and powerful leads. Eddie Van Halen used the OB-Xa to write and record the synthesizer parts on Van Halen's 1984 album, including the iconic riff on "Jump" and the keyboard work on "I'll Wait." The OB-Xa was recorded direct in stereo on both tracks, with the exception of "I'll Wait" where it was run through a pair of Music Man amplifiers for added character. Eddie programmed the synth himself: "I just know that if I twist the knobs enough, I'll hear what I like."
