Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD) formed on the Wirral Peninsula near Liverpool in 1978, founded by Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. One of the earliest and most influential synth-pop acts, they scored UK hits with Enola Gay (1980), Souvenir (1981), and Joan of Arc before achieving their commercial peak with Architecture & Morality (1981). Dazzle Ships (1983), an avant-garde concept album, alienated mainstream audiences but is now considered a lost classic. The band split in 1989 and reunited in 2006, releasing History of Modern (2010) and The Punishment of Luxury (2017).
