Long Beach trio that fused ska, punk, reggae, hip-hop, and dub into one of the most distinctive sounds of the 1990s. Bradley Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, two months before their self-titled album made them enormous. The band sold over 17 million records, almost all of them posthumously.
