The Black Keys

The Black Keys formed in Akron, Ohio in 2001 as a two-piece: Dan Auerbach on guitar and vocals, Patrick Carney on drums. Their early albums — The Big Come Up (2002), Thickfreakness (2003), Rubber Factory (2004) — were raw, lo-fi blues-rock recorded in basements and abandoned buildings. Brothers (2010) and El Camino (2011), produced with Danger Mouse, brought them mainstream success while maintaining their bluesy grit. Tighten Up, Lonely Boy, and Gold on the Ceiling became inescapable. Auerbach's fat, fuzz-drenched guitar tone and Carney's heavy, simplified drumming proved that two people could fill arenas. They have won six Grammy Awards and sold out stadiums worldwide while operating without a bassist.
