The Jam

The Jam formed in Woking, England in 1972, led by Paul Weller with Bruce Foxton on bass and Rick Buckler on drums. They emerged from the punk scene but drew equally from the mod movement of the 1960s — the Who, the Kinks, the Small Faces — creating a sound that was sharper and more melodic than most of their punk contemporaries. In the Town Called Malice, Going Underground, A Town Called Malice, and The Eton Rifles were all UK number ones. All Mod Cons (1978) and Setting Sons (1979) are among the finest British guitar albums of their era. Weller broke up the band at the height of their popularity in 1982 to form the Style Council, then launched a solo career that has continued for four decades. The Jam had 18 consecutive Top 40 singles in the UK.
