Winger

Winger formed in New York in 1987, led by bassist and vocalist Kip Winger alongside guitarist Reb Beach. Despite being dismissed by critics and lampooned on Beavis and Butt-Head, Winger was one of the more musically sophisticated hair metal acts — Kip Winger had a classical music background and Reb Beach was technically accomplished beyond most peers. Their self-titled debut (1988) went platinum on the strength of Seventeen and Headed for a Heartbreak. In the Heart of the Young (1990) continued their commercial success. The band broke up as grunge emerged, reunited in 2001, and has continued recording and touring. Pull (1993) showed a darker, more progressive direction.
